Isaac Mann

Isaac Mann was born in Virginia on March 24, 1791.  He served as a Private in  Captain John Williams Company of the Ohio Militia during the War of 1812.  This company was the first to be stationed at Fort Loramie during  the War of 1812.

His first wife, Mary Ann Ludlow, died in 1812.  They had one daughter named  Lucinda.  In 1813, he married Abigail "Catherine" Williams, daughter of John and  Elizabeth Tawney Williams. 

Family tradition states that he was well educated, having attended college until the age of twenty-one.   Isaac  owned and operated the first sawmill in Shelby County.  The  sawmill was  located in Ft. Loramie, Ohio.

Isaac and his family lived in Oran, Ohio.  The present day crossroads in this village are located near the center of his farm. 

In 1852, Isaac deeded land and donated materials for the community church  and cemetery.  He also demonstrated his benevolence by serving as the  Cynthian Township Overseer of the Poor. 

In his latter years, the Sidney Journal notes the advent of spring being enjoyed by Isaac Mann, "the nature lover".  

Most  of Isaac's children moved west and settled on land  that his father,  Colonel John Mann, purchased in Indiana.  Isaac received a military   land grant in Darke County, Ohio for his service in the War of 1812.   At his death the land passed to his son Lewis Jackson Mann, who stayed  in this area to care for his aging mother. 

 Isaac died in 1860, and was survived by his wife and ten children.
